Is One Day Enough to Visit Nazca?

Many travelers visiting Peru wonder if one day is enough to visit Nazca. The short answer is: not really.

Nazca is one of the places with the richest archaeological heritage in southern Peru. While many visitors come only to see the famous Nazca Lines, the region offers much more to explore and appreciate.

For this reason, we usually recommend spending at least two days in Nazca to fully enjoy the experience.

Start by Seeing the Lines from the Ground

One of the best tips we give to travelers is to first see some of the Nazca Lines from the observation towers along the Pan-American Highway. This gives you a close and unique perspective of the lines before taking the flight.

Having that first contact with the lines from the ground makes a big difference. When you later take the scenic flight over the Nazca Lines, you already understand more about their shapes and location, which makes the aerial experience even more impressive.

More Archaeological Sites to Explore

Nazca is not only about the lines. There are several fascinating archaeological sites around the region. Among them, three stand out for their historical importance and preservation:

  • Cahuachi – A large ceremonial center located about 28 kilometers from Nazca, believed to have been an important religious site of the Nazca civilization.
  • Chauchilla Cemetery – A remarkable archaeological site where you can see well-preserved pre-Columbian mummies in their original burial chambers.
  • Cantalloc Aqueducts – An impressive ancient irrigation system built by the Nazca culture that is still functioning today.

Take Your Time to Discover Nazca

Spending at least two days in Nazca allows visitors to explore the Nazca Lines both from the air and from the ground, while also discovering the incredible archaeological sites surrounding the area.
