DAY 2 : Exploring the Sacred Valley

Ollantaytambo and Pisac Archaeological Site & Market

Today will be devoted to the calm and crowd-free Sacred Valley, which exerts a special hold over many travelers who venture here. You’ll begin exploring the ancient town of Ollantaytambo, where the Inca touch is still very much evident in the ancient street canals and trapezoidal doors.

In the company of your guide, climb up past hillside terraces where crops of corn and potatoes are grown, until you reach the Inca Temple of the Sun. Gaze out at valley vistas and ask your guide to point out the quarry from where the stone for this site was sourced. Consider the odds that were stacked against the Incas – they had neither animals to aid them (llamas were too weak) nor the wheel – and ponder the incredible effort that must have gone into hauling these stones to this site.

Continue on your private guided tour to Pisac and its artisan market. Size up the colorful textiles, delicate ceramics and well-crafted silver pieces on offer and perhaps pick up a gift for a friend or family member back home. Finish by surveying Pisac’s mountainside ruins, which overlook the town below.

Board the train in Ollantaytambo for our journey to Machu Picchu. Watch the cloud jungle pass by through the large glass windows! Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, reception upon arrival and trasfer to your hotel.

Night in Aguas Calientes

DAY 3 : The Lost City of the Incas – Machu Picchu

Early breakfast.
After a bus ride to the gates of this wonder of the world, you will pass through the main gates with your private guide to finally emerge at the top of the world – Machu Picchu. The incredible Inca stone construction will be spread below, alternately hidden and revealed by clouds. Your expert guide will give you a private tour of the ancient city.
Free time in Aguas calientes until your train leaves  to Cusco.

Upon arrival in Cusco transfer to your hotel.

DAY 4 Maras and Moray tour

Receive a morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, after which you’ll be transferred for 50 minutes into the Peruvian countryside, passing through the typical town of Chinchero en route. Make your first stop in the small town of Maras, offering you the chance to catch a glimpse of daily life in one of the region’s small towns. Wander the streets of this typical village and sample some “Chicha,” a Peruvian-style corn beverage. Leaving Maras behind, you’ll drive for another 30 minutes to Moray, an Inca-era archaeological site. Learn about the design and purpose of this circular style terrace system, a complex that was built by the ancient civilization as a testing ground for various micro-climates and different types of agricultural crops. You’ll have one hour on site. After your Maras visit, make a stop at the “Salineras,” a collection of salt mines used since the Inca period to extract salt. The pattern formed by the area’s range of more than 3,000 small salt pools makes for a visually-arresting view for visitors. After your visit to the Salineras, you’ll receive a ride back to your Cusco hotel.
